We are proud to welcome Saskia Sassen as a speaker at the Grand Theatre on Friday 1 November. Professor Saskia Sassen is a world-renowned scholar who teaches sociology at Columbia University and she is a member of the Committee of Global Thought.
Saskia was born in the Netherlands, she grew up in Argentina and Italy, studied in France, was raised in five languages, and began her professional life in the United States. She is the author of eight books and the editor or co-editor of three books. Together, her authored booksare translated in over twenty languages.
During Let's Gro, Saskia's will talk about inclusive cities. She is convinced that we need new, smaller cities. 'In cities such as New York and São Paulo, people spend two hours on their way to work. That is pointless, bad for the climate and it costs employees a lot of energy." she says. "We have to go back to a situation where city centers have a strong center."
